After a fabulous week long summer vacation to Colorado we're back...
We hit the road a little more than a week ago for our much anticipated Colorado Road Trip 2012. Without a care or a plan we loaded up the good old station wagon and started our 932 mile/16 hour adventure to Colorado. Stan navigated and Finn was an absolute champ the whole way! What a blast we had...here is the re-cap.
All packed up...
The Navigator "Stan". He insists on sitting where he can see out the window, doesn't want to miss a thing!
Approximately hour 15...
Wouldn't be a road trip without a few "spinners"
I have such an adventurous husband, Barrett picked up this book a few years ago and this trip marked not only our very first cross country trip with Finn, but our very first High Point. I know, I know, I bet you think I'm going to say that we summitted a 14er Colorado style, but actually our first high point was in IOWA!!! Wooo....after off-roading/detouring (the highway we needed was closed) through Iowa's "fields of opportunity" we finally found it. Hawkeye Point, elevation 1670 feet.
Next Stop...Colorado! Whew!
We finally arrived at Lauren and Ryan's house late Friday night. They were the best hosts and gave us the whole basement. New discovery while on vaca, Finn LOVES his pack-n-play, in fact, he loves it so much that he slept through the night the whole time and takes the most amazing naps in that thing...guess what set up when we got home? Ha!
After breakfast with Bobby, Nicole and the soon to be baby boy Walter we headed to Pearl Street. Finn was not so sure about the water fountain. Maybe next summer!
The next few photos are my favorites of the trip. Do you recognize that bench? The bench is my most favorite spot in Boulder. It sits just a little ways up Flagstaff and it holds such a special place in my heart. I used to visit it quite frequently in college to pray and think and mostly to figure out life. I visited it again on New Year's Eve 2010 and became the luckiest lady in the world when Barrett popped the question, right there at my favorite bench. So it seemed obvious that we needed to introduce Finn to mama's bench and give him the bird's-eye-view of Boulder. I think Barrett mentioned something about this being a good place to bring his girlfriend in college and makeout or something like that....
The is hands down, my favorite photo of the trip! Ooooh I just want to kiss those cheeks!
Thank you selftimer...a little bit of a goofy shot!
See Finn...that's where you can go to college someday (mama and dad need to either win the lottery or move to Colorado first!)
We learned Finn isn't much of a fan of the Boulder Creek. BRRRRRRR!
After trekking around Boulder for the morning, we were exhausted and super sweaty, so we decided to escape for a little iced tea and air-conditioned relief. We had hoped to tour the Celestial Seasonings Factory, but under 5 not admitted, that's ok though we settled for free samples. Finn had a few sips of SleepyTime Tea, here's to hoping it works right!
It wouldn't be a complete trip to Boulder without stopping to see our favorite girls. We just LOVE the Fletemeyer crew. They are the sweetest. We absolutely adore you Fletemeyers and you are such a wonderful example for us!

Ummm seriously, we'll show this at their wedding someday! Haha! Finn and his girlfriend Willow <3

And this is why I miss Colorado BEAUTIFUL!
Happy 4th of July!
We started our 4th of July adventure with a little bike parade. Remember the bikes Barrett helped decorate yesterday? Here they are in all their glory.
The whole star-spangled neighborhood showed up for the festivities!
I was so inspired by the neighborhood participation, that we just sent invites for the first annual Yard Games Olympics later this month!
We celebrated the rest of the 4th of July with our friends the Poppelton's. Colby and David welcomed Parker just three weeks before Finn arrived and it's been an absolute blast to share our new parent adventure with them!
Colby and David are great friends from college and they photographed our wedding for us a few years ago. Which reminds me, you should vote for Colby, she's nominated to be Denver's Best Wedding Photographer. Vote for her here :)
And the handsome Dads!
Parker and Finn...seriously the cutest friends ever!
Off to escape the heat with a trip to Breckenridge for the day.
A Maple Bacon Chocolate Chip Scone.... I highly recommend a trip to Clint's if you're ever in Breck!
I thought this was pretty neat. Finn if you ever want to start an architecture firm in Breckenridge you have my full support, just design me a sweet mountain getaway and we'll be great!
Thanks for letting us borrow the Kelty Galvins, Finn LOVED his ride!
We made a stop at the Breckenridge Children's Museum. I think Finn loved it.
Especially the bear cave!
First of what we hope are many gondola rides up the mountain.
I think next time we might just spend a whole week in Breck!
Our hostess. She even babysat Finn so we could go on a sushi date!
Sadly, our time in Colorado had to come to an end. Back to reality! We had so much fun.
Until next time Colorado, WE LOVE YOU!
What a cute blog post and looks like an awesome trip! We LOVED having you visit, it was such a special time and we miss you!
