So I'll be honest I was a little nervous about attempting these, especially since my days of high school puff painting reminded me that puff paint is permanent especially when applied to dark denim. I opted for a real cheap pair of skinnies from Forever 21, because worst case scenario, I'd only be out about $10 if it went terribly wrong. Lucky for me, it went ok...I think, well I hope, because I'm wearing these little beauties to work today!
Step #1- Wash and dry your denim.
Step #2- Lay Denim out on a flat surface and begin measuring and marking with fabric chalk where you'd like to place your hearts. I did mine about every 2 inches or so and I was really meticulous about it initially, but after my first and second rows, I just sort of eye balled it.
He's super helpful when crafting!
(I used regular chalk because I couldn't find my fabric stuff, but I don't recommend it)
Step #3- Place stencil on top of the mark and press flat.
Step #4- Dip craft sponge in white puff paint, blot off excess and paint/blot a few times over the stencil. (Be very careful that you hold the stencil tight to the fabric, I have a few questionably sharped hearts on my pants.) Move the stencil to the next chalk parking and repeat.
Step #5- Once you're finished with side number one, let the pants completely dry (overnight is best) and repeat on side 2.
Step #6- Wash denim again to get rid of the chalk spots.
Step #7- Rock those sweet, new pants...maybe to the mall to buy some cute boots with the money you saved by DIYing!
Happy Crafting!
